Theodore Sturgeon Award

The Theodore Sturgeon Award is given to the best in science fiction short story writing each year. James Gunn, director of the Center for the Study of Science Fiction at the University of Kansas, established the award in 1987 in cooperation with the widow and children of Theodore Sturgeon.

The award is determined by a committee who selects from a list that was nominated and voted upon by science fiction editors and reviewers. The committee has contained such science fiction notables as Orson Scott Card, James Gunn, Frederik Pohl, and Judith Merril. As of 1999, one of Sturgeon's family members have also served on the committee.
