Robert Sibert Medal

The Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Award is given each year to the most distinguished informational book for children or young adults published in English. It was created in 2001 by the Association for Library Service to Children.

The award is named after the president of Bound to Stay Bound Books, which also sponsors the award.

The Association for Library Service to Children lists the purpose of the award as:

"The ALSC Informational Book Award is intended to honor the author whose work of nonfiction has made a significant contribution to the field of children's literature. Information books are defined as those written and illustrated to present, organize and interpret documentable factual material for children."

The award is given only to books written in English and published in the United States. Authors must be citizens or residents of the United States. Children are defined as people up through the age of 14.

The most distinguished book is given a medal. If there are other books that the committee considers truly distinguished in quality, they may award Honor books.
