Dashiell Hammett Awards
Dashiell Hammett helped define the hardboiled private detective novel in the United States. It is for this reason that the North American Branch of the International Association of Crime Writers puts his name on the award that recognizes a work of literary excellence in the field of crime writing.
The award is given annually to the U.S. or Canadian author who writes a fiction or non-fiction book in crime writing.
The winner is chose by a reading committee of the International Association of Crime Writers based on recommendations from members and the publishing committee.
The award was first given in 1991 and is awarded at Bouchercon.
