Dunning Prize
Mathilda Dunning wanted to memorialize her father, so she left a bequest establishing an award in his name. The Dunning Prize, given by the American Historical Association, is given to a young scholar for the best book on United States history. In a twist that is different from many awards, this prize is given only to books which are the author's first or second book.
The award was established in 1929 and given out every other year until 1986, when it became annual.
