Arthur C. Clarke Awards

The Arthur C. Clarke Award is the British award for science fiction. It recognizes the best science fiction novel to be published in Britain in each year. The award was first given in 1987, after a grant from Arthur C. Clarke was given to encourage science fiction in Britain. The prize value given with each award matches in pounds the year. So the winner in 2004 will receive 2,004 pounds.

The award is administered jointly by the British Science Fiction Association and the Science Fiction Foundation. They each provide two judges. In recent years, the Science Museum has also contributed a judge. The judges can include writers, critics, and fans. They review the submissions and select a winner.
