Carnegie Medal
The Carnegie Medal recognizes the writer of an outstanding children's book each year since 1936. It is now awarded by the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals. Originally it was established by The Library Association in memory of the philanthropist Andrew Carnegie who set up more than 2,800 free libraries around the world.
Library professionals nominate the books to be considered for the medal and a panel of independent judges selects the winner.
The winner receives a gold medal and £500 worth of books to donate to a library of their choice.
