Aurora Awards
The Aurora Awards recognize the best in Canadian science fiction and fantasy. The full name is the Prix Aurora Awards and they are given out each year by the Canadian SF and Fantasy Association.
The first award was given in 1980 and only one category was recognized. In 1991, it was expanded to 10 categories:
. Best Long-Form Work in English
. Best Long-Form Work in French
. Best Short-Form Work in English
. Best Short-Form Work in French
. Best Work in English (Other)
. Best Work in French (Other)
. Artistic Achievement
The remaining three categories are for fan achievement.
Awards are selected through nominations that produce a short list. The short list is then distributed to members who rank their choices in each category to determine the winner. Voting fees, donations, and the host convention group help to pay for the awards.
