Description: The Arthur Ellis award recognizes books in the crime genre published first in Canada or by Canadian writers living outside of Canada. It was first awarded in 1984 and is granted by the Crime Writers of Canada. The award name is taken from the pseudonym of Canada's last official hangman.
Special awards have included the Chairman Award, Best Play, and Best Genre Criticism/Reference Award.
