Alex Awards
Many teenagers prefer to read books written for adults, which provides a challenge to many librarians who want to recommend something that is both appealing and appropriate. Recognizing this concern, the Young Adult Library Services Association of the American Library Association and the Booklist created the Alex Awards in 1997.
These awards honor the top ten adult books for young adults published during the award year. It is funded by the Margaret Alexander Edwards Trust, in honor of Margaret Edwards, a Baltimore librarian who was committed to using adult books with teenagers.
The award-winning books are adult fiction and non-fiction titles.
