Michael Weisskopf
Michael Weisskopf is a man for whom the cost of journalism has been great.
An investigative reporter for Time magazine, Weisskopf has uncovered many stories in his day from Monica Lewinsky to Enron to the FBI whistle blower. In 2003, he was in Iraq working on the Person of the Year story. While riding an Army humvee, he grabbed a live hand grenade that had been thrown at them. He saved the six people in the humvee, but lost his right hand.
He's the recipient of numerous awards: The National Headliners Award, The Daniel Pearl Award for courage and integrity in journalism, Goldsmith Award for Investigative Reporting, Henry R. Luce Award, George Polk Award, Everett McKinley Dirksen Award for Distinguished Reporting of Congress, and was a finalist for a Pulitzer.
Weisskopf, a graduate of George Washington University and the John Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies has worked for The Montgomery Advertiser, The Baltimore Sun, The Washington Post, and Time.
