Harry Turtledove

Originally a member of academia, earning a PhD with his dissertation on the Byzantine successors of Justinian, Harry Turtledove began publishing fantasy and horror novels under the name of Eric Iverson. He's since become known as the dean of the alternate history genre with his most famous novel, Guns of the South, inspired by an off-hand comment by an author he would later collaborate with, Judith Tarr.

Turtledove is married to mystery writer Laura Frankos and they have three daughters together. He has collaborated with many writers including Tarr, Richard Dreyfuss, Elaine O'Byrne, Kevin Sandes, Susan Shwartz, and S.M. Stirling.

Among the awards Turtledove has earned are the Hugo Award for Novella, the Nebula Award for Best Novelette, the John Esthen Cook Award for Southern Fiction, and honorary Kentucky Colonel.
