Kathy Reichs
Kathy Reichs subscribes to the adage "write what you know." And what Riechs knows, better than almost anyone else, is forensic anthropology.
The forensic anthropologist for both the State of North Carolina and the province of Quebec, she is one of only 50 people to be certified in the field by the American Board of Forensic Anthropology.
Born in Chicago, Reichs earned her masters and PhD at Northwestern (her bachelor's degree was from American University). Her work has included such tasks as examining the remains in the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, identifying war dead from World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, forensic work at Ground Zero in New York, identifying individuals in mass graves, and testifying on genocide in Rwanda.
Her books explore different areas of forensic anthropology. In 1997, she won the Arthur Ellis Award for best first novel. In 2005, her Temperance Brennan series was made into a Fox Network television series called Bones. On television, Temperance Brennan (played by Emily Deschanel) writes about a "fictional" forensic anthropologist, Kathy Reichs.
