Terry Pratchett

Terry Pratchett, born 1948 in England, became the byword for his mastery of humor and the absurd in his science fiction and fantasy works. The creator of Discworld, Pratchett left school early after he was offered a job at a local newspaper.

While working for that newspaper he began producing novels. The novels got off to a slow start, but when BBC broadcast his third novel, things began to take off. It wasn't long before Pratchett became one of fantasy's most popular writers.

Before J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter, Pratchett had bragging rights as the top selling living British fiction writer-selling nearly two million books per year. In 1998, he was awarded an Order of the British Empire for services to literature.
