Nicholas Pileggi

Born in 1933 in New York City, Nicholas Pileggi would make a career out of crime-writing about it, that is.

He began crime writing with The Associated Press, becoming a reporter there in 1956. By 1968, he was the crime expert for New York. However, he soon went from crime reporting to writing novels and screen plays about organized crime.

He wrote the film adaptation of Wise Guy with director Martin Scorsese, an adaptation that would net them an Academy Award nomination for Best Screen Play Adaptation in 1990. He has also produced several television shows including Vendetta, Michael Hayes, and Father Hood as well as appearing in several television shows about Las Vegas and organized crime.

He's married to author, screenwriter and film director Nora Ephron.
