Mary Pope Osborne

Mary Pope Osborne has taken her young readers far and wide in magical trips backward in time via the Magic Treehouse. She makes such an excellent tour guide in part because she has done so much traveling herself.

Born into a military family, Osborne moved frequently, living in such places as Oklahoma, Austria, Florida, Virginia, and North Carolina. After graduating from college, Osborne took up traveling in Europe and Asia. The first six weeks of her trip were spent in a cave on the island of Crete. Her travels included such countries as Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, and Nepal.

Before becoming a writer, Osborne held such jobs as acting teacher, waitress, travel agent, window dresser, and medical assistant.
