Christine Nöstlinger
Christine Nöstlinger was born in Vienna, Austria in 1936. A sometime journalist, Nöstlinger planned to pursue a career in graphic arts. She studied at the Academy of Applied Arts in Vienna until she married.
In 1970, Nöstlinger began writing children's books, books with a distinctly anti-authoritarian flair. She writes humorous books that reflect the very real issues that children face.
Nöstlinger's books include imaginative/supernatural stories, realistic stories of everyday life, and autobiographical memories of growing up during World War II.
In 2003, she was awarded the first Astrid Lingdren Memorial Prize.
