Khaled Hosseini
Khaled Hosseini knows what it is like to be uprooted.
Born in Kabul, Afghanistan in 1965, he and his four younger siblings moved with the family to Paris when he was 11. His father was posted to a diplomatic post in the Afghan embassy. Before they had the chance to return home, there was a communist coup and the Soviet Union had invaded. He and his family received asylum in the United States and moved to California in 1980.
Hosseini attended Santa Clara University and graduated from the University of California at San Diego School of Medicine. His first novel skyrocketed up the bestseller lists almost immediately.
