Thomas Harris

Harris began his writing career as a reporter, working for the Associated Press reporter, covering crime in the United States and Mexico. Before that he worked at the News-Tribune in Waco, Texas where he was attending Baylor University in pursuit of an English degree. While working his way for school, Harris attempted to sell macabre short stories to fiction magazines.

Harris is not an author who produces a book a year. In fact, despite the bestselling successes of every novel, and despite working full-time as a writer, he has produced only four books over a 25 year period. The slowness is attributed to his painstaking research and commitment to accurate detail.

His third novel, Silence of the Lambs, was made into a motion picture with Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster — a movie that went on to win the top five Academy Awards: Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Screenplay, Best Director, and Best Picture.

Silence of the Lambs was also a Bram Stoker winner and a World Fantasy nominee.
