Sara Gruen
An animal lover, an environmentalist, and a lover of the ocean, Sara Gruen is an author who left technical writing to become a bestselling novelist.
While it sounds like a glamorous move, it wasn't one taking lightly. It was the technical writing job that first brought her to the United States after being born in and living most of her life in Canada. She's also the mother of three children and caretaker to numerous animals including dogs, cats, goats, and a horse.
When her hit novel Water for Elephants was published, Sara Gruen was living in an environmentalist community where the small lots were surrounded by wetlands and lawns were allowed to grow naturally. They were also filled with homes that were built for greater energy efficiency and conservation.
