Ed Emberley

An artist and a painter, Ed Emberley is a popular children's book author and illustrator because he helps turn children into artists. His books teach children how to make their own pictures and drawings, whether it is using crayons, pencils, or thumbprints.

His works have won a Caldecott Honor book and frequently been lauded by children's book critics.

Born in 1931, Emberley attended the Massachusetts School of Art in Boston where he met his wife and collaborator, Barbara. They married in 1955 and Ed spent two years in the Army while Barbara worked as a librarian. He completed his formal art training at Rhode Island School of Design
