Kate DiCamillo
The snow and the cold of a Minnesota winter launched Kate DiCamillo into writing her first novel-a novel that would spring onto the bestseller list and earn a Newbery
Honor. With her bachelor's degree in English, DiCamillo was working full-time at a bookstore when she was first inspired to write a children's novel.
Born in Pennsylvania, DiCamillo's family moved to Florida when she was five at the advice of her doctor who suggested the warmer climates might relieve her chronic pneumonia. It was here she received her inspiration for her first book and it was her homesickness for Florida that further provided images for her pages.
DiCamillo's third book won a Newbery Medal and her work was also a National Book Award finalist.
