Born in 1918 in Buffalo, New York, artist and author Dorothy Wende Devlin (known as Wende) spent a lifetime creating. She and her husband, author and illustrator Harry Devlin, collaborated on books, comic strips, and artistic work throughout their 60-year marriage.

They met at Syracuse University while she was majoring in Fine Arts and went on to have seven children. Wende became well-known for her still lifes and was never without a portrait commission. She was awarded the Arents Medal for Art and Literature, was a member of Rutger's Advisory Council on Children's Literature, and was named to the New Jersey Literary Hall of Fame in 1989.

Their comic strip, Fullhouse (also known as Raggmopp) were based on the antics of their children-and the characters were named after them as well.

Wende died at age 84 in August 2002, less than a year after her husband's death.
