Sharon Creech is an author who takes absolute delight in her creations. While she has thus far eschewed arranging her books into series, she does build connections throughout her novels. A character who exists in one novel will show up in another.

Creech was raised in Cleveland as part of a family of five children. She said that when she was young she wanted to be a painter, an ice skater, a singer, a teacher, and a reporter. Most of those quickly fell by the wayside as she became captivated by storytelling. She became a high school English teacher, eventually teaching in England and Switzerland.

It was while in England that she first began writing. Her first two novels were for adults, but once she began writing for children, she never looked back. Her first book to be published in the United States won a Newbery Medal. Other novels have won a Christopher Award, Mitten Award (a Michigan award), a Cambridge Medal, and a Claudia Lewis Poetry Award.
