Lois McMaster Bujold
Born in 1949 and raised in Ohio, Lois McMaster Bujold was an early science fiction fan, picking up her father's leavings beginning at age 9. Throughout junior high and high school, she and a friend would collaborate on elaborate stories. It was only many years later when her friend began publishing that Bujold considered writing as a possible career.
She first took on writing as a hobby, producing a novelette, before deciding that writing was too demanding to be just a hobby. She produced her first novel in 1983 and has written steadily since that time. Her works have won five Hugos and two Nebulas and been nominated for a World Fantasy and a Romantic Times award.
