Avi
Avi, born in New York in 1937, was first dubbed "Avi" by his twin
sister Emily. He says it is now the only name he uses. He says he comes
from a family of writers, artists and musicians and has gone on to help
create a family that includes rock musicians, journalists, filmmakers,
and TV directors.
Avi didn't dream of being a writer. He dreamt of being a airplane designer. But after a high school English teacher insisted that he get help with his writing skills, the idea of writing grew in attraction. He began writing plays, but when those didn't meet his standards, he started writing children's books.
Since then, he has written many books including Newbery Award winner Nothing But the Truth.
