Laura Adams Armer
Laura Adams Armer was an artist who wanted to change the way children looked at Native American people and cultures. Born in California in 1874, Armer was an author and illustrator of children's books. She was also a photographer, film director, and artist.
She opened her first studio in 1899 and did extensive photographing of the Navaho and Hopi Indians. Her movie, The Mountain Chant, was narrated in a native Indian tongue.
Her children's book, The Waterless Mountain, was a Newbery winner in 1932.
Armer died in 1963.
